Culzean Castle

This is the building that appears on the back of the five-pound notes here in Scotland.

Culzean Castle, on the west coast of Scotland. We took just a two-hour busride to get to the other side of the country.

Gardens outside the castle. Culzean Castle (pronounced Cull-ane) was built throughout the 1700s and now belongs to the National Trust for Scotland. While Eisenhower was president, his family was given access to the top floor of the castle whenever they visited Scotland.

The castle is situated on a cliff overlooking the Ayrshire Coastline. It was a dreary day for us, but on a clear day, Ireland and some Scottish islands are visible on the horizon.

It was rainy and about 40 degrees, so Eleni and I warmed up with some tea halfway through our tour of the castle and gardens.
